The Port Ellen distillery was located in Port Ellen on the isle of Islay, Scotland. It initially operated between 1825 and 1983 when production shut down. Although supplies of its single malt whisky are still available, the dwindling stocks of Port Ellen whisky due to the closing of the distillery make this whisky a valuable collector's item.
56.5% ABV
Most of these extant bottles are now in private collections so it is hard to get tasting notes. However, one lucky whiskey-taster reported this bottling as a canvas of smoke with spatterings of salted cashew, smoked meats and a finish of mint jelly.
