Springbank Distillery is the oldest independent, family-owned distillery in Scotland. Legal distillation began in 1828. The chairman is Hedley Wright, the great, great grandson of John Mitchell, the first legal distiller of Springbank whiskey. There are few Scottish distilleries that still malt their own barely, but Springbank is the only distillery which malts 100% of its own barley, using traditional floor malting. The whole production process: malting, milling, mashing, fermentation, distillation, maturation and bottling, happens on one site in Campbeltown. This is unique in Scotland.

Why Whiskey Enthusiasts Want Springbank
Traditional Production Methods: Springbank Distillery is known for its traditional and hands-on whisky-making approach. They are one of the few distilleries in Scotland that carry out the full production process on-site, including floor malting, fermentation, distillation, maturation, and bottling. This traditional approach is increasingly rare and contributes to the unique character of their whisky.
Unique Distillation Process: Springbank uses a unique distillation process. Their standard Springbank whisky is distilled two and a half times, which is unusual and not commonly practised in the industry. This gives the whisky a distinctive profile that sets it apart from others.
Variety of Flavors: The whiskies produced by Springbank are known for their complexity and depth of flavor. They often feature a mix of maritime, fruity, and peaty notes. The variation in flavour profiles, from the lightly peated Springbank to the heavily peated Longrow, and the unpeated Hazelburn, offers something for a wide range of whisky preferences.
Limited Production and Craftsmanship: Springbank operates on a relatively small scale compared to larger commercial distilleries. This limited production, combined with the craftsmanship and attention to detail in their whisky-making process, contributes to the overall quality and desirability of their products.
Independent Ownership: The distillery is one of Scotland's few remaining family-owned whisky producers. This independence allows them to prioritize quality and tradition over mass production and commercial considerations.
Collectability and Investment Value: Due to its quality, limited production, and unique characteristics, Springbank whisky often becomes a collector's item. Some limited releases and older bottles can appreciate in value, making them sought after by collectors and investors.
