For their fourth Vaults project, they were afforded the luxury of blending barrels from their stocks of up to 20-year-old casks. The Vaults series stands out as unique, showcasing exceptional and mature whiskey, which is then rebarreled in new cooperage. Initially, when the distillate is barreled, it presents as young and wild; however, after more than a decade, it evolves into something mellow and mature. The process of placing The Vaults blend in new oak serves to polish the older whiskey in a surprising manner, enhancing its intensity, richness, and depth of flavor, thereby imparting that distinctive Widow Jane signature taste.
An act of Congress in 1964 declared bourbon to be the only true American Spirit. This creation, combining Tennessee and Indiana bourbon, blended and finished in New York and rebarreled in wood from the Missouri Ozarks, epitomizes the American Spirit.
In keeping with the Vaults tradition, one can detect notes of sweet tobacco and leather, vanilla, sarsaparilla, unsweetened cinnamon, and cocoa powder, complemented by a hint of seasoned oak reminiscent of a campfire. It is meticulously cut to proof using the water from the legendary Rosendale mines of New York State. This water, a complementary ingredient, bestows a beautiful minerality and a finish that is uniquely Widow Jane.
